GoCloud hosted desktops help the medical sector provide better patient care with fast, secure, and reliable IT.
From the user’s perspective, a hosted desktop is exactly the same as their normal desktop experience.
All of your files, folders, emails, software, shortcuts and settings remain the same, the difference being that the desktop can be accessed from anywhere.
This means that whether you’re using your office PC or Mac, a
laptop whilst doing the rounds or a smartphone at home or even
abroad, you have instant access to everything you need 24/7.
Whilst the ability to use your hosted desktop at home, when attending an event or during your commute massively increases daily productivity, for the medical sector it also greatly benefits doctors and nurses who are constantly moving around the site.
Rather than storing files on different devices, your hosted desktop is always available when you need it simply by logging in.
This in itself can save medical professionals a lot of time, as there’s no delay in finding the precise information required for a particular patient.
Hosted desktops also help the medical sector to become less dependent on paper.
Whilst some documents and records will always be required in
physical form, accessing them becomes much faster and easier
when each member of staff can use their personal hosted desktop
from any device with an internet connection.
When you use your hosted desktop on a computer, laptop or phone, you’re simply accessing the system that’s stored within our UK data centre.
No actual files are saved to that device, so you never have to worry about confidential data falling into the wrong hands if the device is lost or stolen.
Meanwhile, hosted desktops from GoCloud come with a wide array of advanced security features:
All of the above guarantees that your data is protected against not only malware and hackers, but also members of staff who don’t have admin rights to particular files.
In the process, GDPR compliance becomes infinitely easier
because every piece of data is stored in one place, which is
monitored around the clock, looked after by our experienced
technicians, and backed up every single day.
We understand that organisations within the medical sector need to run their daily operations in a cost-effective and sustainable way.
This is where hosted desktops present two additional benefits, as they use less electricity than traditional desktops.
Less strain on your hardware means a lower utility bill and an extended lifespan for the devices.
Also, due to each hosted desktop being stored inside GoCloud’s infrastructure, you no longer need your own server hardware.
This in itself can save an organisation in the medical sector many thousands of pounds every year, as the costs associated with its daily running, maintenance, repairs, upgrades and air conditioned environment are entirely removed.
Going one step further, you can replace old PCs with thin clients.
These are designed with the sole purpose of accessing hosted desktops through an internet connection, which results in them working faster and more securely whilst requiring a lot less power.
If you want to really get the most out of your hosted desktops, the installing of thin clients across the site is great for your budget as well as the planet.

You are able to download your data whenever you want. Depending on how much data you have, you can copy the data via a mapped drive, download via FTP, or we can send you USB hard drives.
A hosted desktop is a Windows desktop containing your applications, which you use to access your files and data from. Files can be stored on a hosted file server, data can be on a database server such as SQL Server. Our hosted desktop service comes with the desktops, file server and a firewall, all dedicated to you and not shared with other customers.
No. Customers can use any PC, Mac or Linux machine to connect to their hosted desktop. One of the initial cost-savings is the ability to continue to use existing PCs. As the processing power, memory, and storage are provided by our servers, customers are even able to use older PCs that would be unable to run a new Operating System themselves, thereby extending their working lives and ROI. Alternatively, you may decide to supply thin clients, to further enhance the benefits of moving to a hosted desktop environment. Thin clients are physically smaller PCs; they cost less than a normal PC (aka a "fat client"), and use a lot less energy. Of course, as a hybrid measure they may opt to simply replace existing computers with thin clients as they begin to fail. Hosted desktops will also work on laptops, tablet devices such as the iPad and smartphones such as the iPhone.
Firstly, we recommend using a backup internet service if required, such as ADSL or a dongle if mobile. Secondly, if you lose your connection to your hosted desktop, when you regain your connection, your desktop is exactly as you left it, with all applications and data intact.
