GoCloud hosted desktops put transport companies on the road to success with the freedom to work from anywhere.
If you visualise your current desktop arrangement, with its files, folders, software, email applications and even your own unique settings and preferences, this is exactly what a hosted desktop delivers.
How it differs is that all of this information is hosted in GoCloud’s secure data centres, meaning that your own equipment doesn’t have to store any of it on site.
This comes with multiple benefits for logistics companies of
all shapes and sizes, which are highlighted below.
From the management team and finance department to warehouse operatives and HGV drivers, every member of staff will have access to their individual hosted desktops from wherever they happen to be.
They can still use their usual PCs, but they also gain the ability to access, edit and share documents from additional devices, such as desktop computers at other sites, laptops, iPads and even smartphones.
The outcome is absolute agility, with your sales reps having everything at their fingertips when visiting clients, drivers being able to check logistical data with ease, stock managers submitting real-time inventory updates, and much more.
Greater productivity across the board will always come with financial benefits.
In addition, hosted desktops are cheaper to run than traditional versions because they use less electricity, which is great for your utility bills.
If you currently have your own server rooms, these will no longer be required and you can eradicate the costs associated with their maintenance, repairs, upgrades and heavy air conditioning.
Many companies in the transport and logistics industry also take advantage of thin clients.
These energy-efficient machines replace your sluggish old PCs
and are more secure and speedy, paying for themselves in a very
short time.
With hosted desktops, every single piece of data is securely backed up in our state-of-the-art facilities.
This eliminates the risk of files becoming lost or being beyond reach, as we ensure that they’re safely stored and always remain accessible to authorised users.
In the event that something catastrophic happens, such as a flood, fire, criminal damage or a hardware malfunction on your premises, you have the peace of mind that we can recover your data very quickly.
Aside from being a huge comfort, this also enables your logistics business to remain compliant and adhere to GDPR requirements, as all of your confidential information is centrally stored and protected 24/7.
On top of this, you receive the following security features as standard:
A hosted desktop infrastructure from GoCloud is an excellent way to make your daily operations more environmentally friendly.
The system is designed around green performance, as it uses a lot less electricity than old-fashioned PCs and other hardware.
As a result, choosing hosted desktops can help you to run a more sustainable and ecologically responsible business, which may even come with financial rewards from the government.

You are able to download your data whenever you want. Depending on how much data you have, you can copy the data via a mapped drive, download via FTP, or we can send you USB hard drives.
A hosted desktop is a Windows desktop containing your applications, which you use to access your files and data from. Files can be stored on a hosted file server, data can be on a database server such as SQL Server. Our hosted desktop service comes with the desktops, file server and a firewall, all dedicated to you and not shared with other customers.
No. Customers can use any PC, Mac or Linux machine to connect to their hosted desktop. One of the initial cost-savings is the ability to continue to use existing PCs. As the processing power, memory, and storage are provided by our servers, customers are even able to use older PCs that would be unable to run a new Operating System themselves, thereby extending their working lives and ROI. Alternatively, you may decide to supply thin clients, to further enhance the benefits of moving to a hosted desktop environment. Thin clients are physically smaller PCs; they cost less than a normal PC (aka a "fat client"), and use a lot less energy. Of course, as a hybrid measure they may opt to simply replace existing computers with thin clients as they begin to fail. Hosted desktops will also work on laptops, tablet devices such as the iPad and smartphones such as the iPhone.
Firstly, we recommend using a backup internet service if required, such as ADSL or a dongle if mobile. Secondly, if you lose your connection to your hosted desktop, when you regain your connection, your desktop is exactly as you left it, with all applications and data intact.
